Volunteers
We need volunteers. We are looking for all the help we can get, from timekeepers, to scorekeepers, or if you can help out in any way it would be greatly appreciated. Please see me for details.

Sponsorships
This is our 2nd year hosting the Shaolin Showdown tournament. Last year was a success thanks, in part, to our sponsors from last year which included South Central Bank, Minit Mart, Lifeskills and others. We are again asking for sponsorships from any and all businesses that would like to help us throw an awesome tournament for the children. I’m also attaching sponsorship sheets if you know of anyone that would be willing to donate.

A little bit about the seminars

Fu Hok Seung Yin Kuen
This is one of Hung Gar Kung-Fu’s pillar forms. It contains many of Hung Gar’s seed techniques and is a great form for learning proper application, stamina, bridging and stance work.

18 Lohan Qi Gong
This internal exercise is derived from the original 18 movements from the Shaolin Temple that were used to keep the monks healthy and their vital energy up. The movements are slow and similar to Tai-Chi, however, this form is primarily for the health benefits. Training this form, helps with flexibility, internal massaging of the organs, tendon flexing and breathing.

Choy Lee Fut Double Broadsword
From the Chan Family Choy Lee Fut system, this is a great form for practicing with the double broadswords. Not very long in length, but very powerful and a great practice form for anyone that has an interest in weapons.

Children’s Ching Nin Kuen Sparring
For any child wanting to improve, this form will help in training your timing, speed and sparring capabilities. It is a 2-man choreographed fighting form based on the Ching Nin Kuen form that we practice in class. It is not a pre-requisite to know the solo form before attending this seminar.

Master Au At Cultural PlazaAbout Sifu Seng Jeorng Au
Sifu Au, began training in Hung Gar and Choy Lee Fut Kung-Fu in the early 70’s from the well-known and highly respected Sigung Buck Sam Kong. Master Au was the Windward branches head instructor from 1977 to 1990 and started the Kahaluu, Kailua and Kamehameha school branches after he became head instuctor of Kaneohe branch with Gary Keawe-Aiko.

In 1990, Sifu Au created Au’s Shaolin Arts Society to continue the traditions that were taught to him by his Sifu Buck Sam Kong. During this time, Sifu Au began training with Master Chan Yong Fa from Australia learning Qi Gong and Chan Family Choy Lee Fut. Today, Sifu Au is recognized as a Wing Sing Tong International Master within the Chan Family Choy Lee Fut organization and continues to perpetuate his knowledge of Hung Gar and Choy Lee Fut Kung-Fu in Hawaii and all over the world.

Master Au has won over 300 awards in worldwide competitions, numerious grand-championships, and given hundreds of workshops and seminars. He has traveled to such far off places as South Africa and Siberia to spread the goodwill of the martial arts in competition. In 1990 he was inducted into the Black Belt Hall of Fame and won a gold medal at the Goodwill Games of Seattle that same year. We had a great turnout Tuesday night for the refinement seminar. The focus was on Lau Gar Kuen and the underlying theme of the evening was “hold your form!” We’re looking forward to another great evening tonight when we work on Siu Lum Fist and Pek Kwar Darn Dou.

The Hung style of kung fu is known by many names in the west; Hung Gar, Hung Kuen, Tiger & Crane, etc. The style is named after its first patriarch, Hung Hei Guen. It is a synthesis of the original Southern Shaolin style of Chinese kung fu. It should be made known to the reader that there were two Shaolin Temples in China.

This is the first time a direct descendant of Chan Heung, the founder of Choy Lee Fut has written publicly on the origin of the art based on documents kept within the family. It is important that the correct historical information be recorded and kept for a major system of martial arts such as Choy Lee Fut, especially when the tradition is still alive and well within the reach of its followers. Although Choy Lee Fut is a relatively modern style by Chinese standards (most of its practitioners would be only sixth or seventh generation students), its roots can be traced back to the Shaolin temple and as such, the knowledge it contains can give a vital insight into the teachings of the original Shaolin martial arts. Now that a member of the Chan family is in a position to speak out and offer his family knowledge to the world, it is hoped that others in the Choy Lee Fut fraternity worldwide will rally to his call and help to strengthen and to spread this system of authentic Shaolin martial arts.

At Shaolin Kung-Fu Center we believe in giving children the best opportunities for success in life through the martial arts. Our goal is to educate children and adults about the negative results from bullying and being bullied.

The US Dept. of Health & Human Services defines bullying as aggressive behavior that is intentional, repeated over time, and involves an imbalance of power or strength. A child who is being bullied has a hard time defending himself or herself.

Attached is a document containing 6 smart ways to defeat the bully. Parents, please visit the “Stop Bullying Now” website for more information. Click Here.
